Consuelo Okdie was born many years ago in New York State. By age 17 she had been selling her artwork for several years and her first cartoon was published at age 18.
Consuelo was a production artist for two stained glass studios, as well as for a clothing designer specializing in hand drawn batik designs. Her cartoons were published over the course of 10 years in several horse related magazines and she became well known for her portraits of show horses, dogs and cats.
When she discovered polymer clay in 2000, Consuelo realized she had finally found a medium with the versatility she had been craving and has worked exclusively in the medium ever since.
Her colorful and imaginative polymer creations have been featured on line, in PolymerCAFE magazine, and in an ad for PolymerCAFE that was widely seen, including in Bead&Button and in Beads Unique magazines. Consuelo and her work have been featured on the Carol Duvall show, HGTV’s That’s Clever, and on an episode of DIY’s new show Craft Lab. Craft Lab will be re-running Connie's episode on July 10th at noon. Watch for the August Craft Report magazine and the February 2008 issue of Bead&Button which will include articles by Connie!
In addition to being a member of the National Polymer Clay Guild Consuelo also belongs to the Florida Craftsmen organization. She has also been a Project Designer for Polyform Products for the past three and a half years.
Consuelo is not sure what she wants to be when she grows up as she plans on staying young (and young at heart) for her entire life.
